News Update:

1. Ontario Band Festival - The Concert Band recently earned a Bronze for their participation the festival, and enjoyed a workshop with a renowned band director.

2. Ontario Vocal Festival - The Concert Choir travels to Bowmanville on Feb 29 to participate in this celebration of all things singing!

3. Sounds of Toronto - Once again this year, Newtonbrook students in band and vocal classes will be joining over 1000 students from over 20 Toronto schools to perform for one night only at the legendary Massey Hall on April 10. Tickets are only $5 and it promises to be a spectacular evening of song!

4. Coffeehouse - An evening of acoustic music and poetry and all sorts of other performances, organize by students, for students, takes place in the evening on March 26. Stay tuned for details!

5. May Music Night - takes place May 15, featuring all music classes and extra-curricular groups!

6. Congrats - to Erica Kowal, music student and MOB council member, who was awarded the Chancellor's Scholarship to Queen's University.

 co-ordinated with ‘Free the Children’ group

Current Initiatives:
Music Organization of Brook (MOB)

 student council has organized two successful movie nights

 bake sale raised over $60 for cancer research

Entertainment Book Fundraiser
-
 large “adult” book is $35, small “values” book is $20
-
 ½ the cost goes directly to music department
-
 incredible savings at many local restaurants, entertainment venues, etc.

 Music Retreat, Nov. 23-24
-
 overnight leadership and music skills development camp held at Jackson’s Point
-
 currently 17 band and choir students registered
-
 co-ordinated with L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute

Feeder School Music Morning, late Nov – early Dec
-
 bands from local feeder schools (RJ Lang, Willowdale, etc) will come to Newtonbrook
-
 participate in watching a short concert, then doing an interactive workshop with our students

            Nov. 13 – Canadian Opera Company Rehearsal studios
            Nov. 14 – Four Seasons Centre, Humber College Jazz Concert
